I performed with the Maria Volonte Tango Jazz Ensemble at the SF Jazz Festival on May 31. Lately, Maria and I have been experimenting with fusing her Argentine music with my blues harmonica — and it works. After all, it makes sense. As Maria says, both tango and blues started in the same place: brothels.
I’ll be playing on 4 songs: “Vuelvo al Sur” by Astor Piazzolla, the jazz standard “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” and two of Maria’s own compositions: “Sauce Grande,” and her encore tune “Ultimos acordes de la Fiesta.”
Let me at ’em!
