ARGENTINA’S MARIA VOLONTE TO PLAY SAN FRANCISCO’S RRAZZ ROOM AT HOTEL NIKKO ON AUGUST 8

Latin Grammy-nominated Argentine singer/songwriter Maria Volonte brings the passionate music of Buenos Aires to the Rrazz room at Hotel Nikko, San Francisco’s Premiere Nightclub, on AUGUST 8

(San Francisco, CA) – Argentina’s Latin Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Maria Volonte returns to the Rrazz Room at Hotel Nikko on August 8, 2011 to perform her songs filled with all the intense passions of Buenos Aires.

Just back from her cross-country Blue Tango Tour, nourished by the music she heard and life on the road, Maria returns to the Rrazz Room to perform new songs and the classics that her San Francisco fans have come to love, including her hit “SF Tango.”

Maria Volonte is renowned for her intense live performances, exquisite musicality, charismatic stage presence and deep Latin sensuality. Following her sold-out performance at the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Maria has become a regular at the Rrazz Room at Hotel Nikko.

Together with harmonica player Kevin Carrel Footer, Maria will heat up the foggy San Francisco night!

About the Blue Tango Tour:

The Blue Tango Tour is Maria’s exploration of the deep spiritual bond that joins tango and the blues, as two genres steeped in sin, born in brothels, censored yet always resurgent and speaking directly to our souls.

Performing together with harmonica player Kevin Carrel Footer, Maria’s guitar and vocals fill the stage with the illicit pleasures of tango while Kevin’s blues harmonica echoes with the distant whine of the solitary blues soul.

About Maria Volonte:

Winner of the Gardel Prize, a Latin Grammy nominee and member of the Tango Hall of Fame, Maria Volonte is an Argentine singer, guitarist and composer celebrated for the intense passion and beauty of her songs as well as for her charisma and sensuality on stage.
After conquering the world of tango with numerous award-winning CDs, Maria’s new work explores the fusion of Argentine music with other Latin American rhythms, jazz and the blues.
A tireless adventurer in music as in life, Maria lives year-round on the road, criss-crossing the globe to bring her music to new audiences.
Maria has released 8 award-winning CDs. Her latest album “Maria Volonte: Portrait” is available worldwide on the Network/Harmonia Mundi label.

What other people say about Maria Volonte:

*The Guardian (UK)* says, “She can mix an intimate treatment of tango
classics by the great Astor Piazzolla with songs from Chile and
Brazil, along with echoes of late-night jazz and Latin-blues fusion.
She has a cool, emotional style, plays impressive acoustic guitar, and
is willing to experiment.”

*The Los Angeles Times* says, “Volonté is a good example of an artist
who is respectful of her roots yet not afraid to go beyond musty old
formulas… Her musical concept is refreshingly broad.”

While *Jazz Perspectives* says simply, “María Volonté combines the
earthiness of Edith Piaf with the sassiness of Eartha Kitt.”
